The location of the Hotel Colon was perfect for a short break to Barcelona. We had booked a standard room but were up graded to a superior room with a view of the cathedral at no extra cost. The room was large and bright with plenty of room. Staff were friendly and helpful.

This hotel is in a fantastic location and staff friendly.
Double bed was small and mattress was hard, so we changed to a twin and it was perfect. The carpets could do with been shampooed.

Great situation, on the square opposite the cathedral. In the middle of the old town (or more specifically the Barri Gotic area) Despite being on the square perfectly quiet (at least as long as your window is shut - if it was open might be more noisy I suppose). Breakfast was fine with hot and cold buffet. Very clean, and individual.
Top Tip
Firstly try using the touristic bus - it really does visit where you want to go, is open topped, and provides commentary via earphones in every language you could want. There are two different companies, don't confuse them. Cafe Accademia is a great restaurant and not pricey. Must sees include Gaudi's Casa Mila, Casa Batllo, and Parc Guell, not forgetting the Sagrada Familia. Montjuic hill, castle and Olympic park are a fine day out in good weather. You can get there from Barceloneta (the old fishing port) by cable car, and this gives great views of the harbour area as you cross it. The evening Flamenco dancing show including dinner at Poble Espanyol at the bottom of Montjuic is good value and fun.
